"Lookin' back at my background,
Tryin' to figure out how I ever got here.
Some things are still a mystery to me,
While others are much too clear!"

Greetings from Portland, Oregon

Congratulations!

You have found John McBride's top secret experimental web site and former home of the
Blue Box Network.

Hey, what time is it?

Keeping an eye on the mischievous 'Blaze' is hard work, but somebody's got to do it.

What is this ugly little site all about?

Well, it's about everything and nothing.  It's a place where my 'inner child' has taken over and pretty much runs everything.  First, I use it to share internet marketing and web development knowledge with friends and clients.  Second, I use this site to conduct tests from time-to-time, moving data to and from the web.  It lets me play with technical stuff without begging for permission or accidentally blowing-up somebody else's corporate network.  In fact, most of what happens here is hidden from public view.  Third, I use it to keep in touch with friends and family, so you'll find lots of personal stuff here.

What are you doing here?

I get lots of hits on this site, but I'm not sure why.  (No, I'm not the 'John McBride' married to Martina McBride, but he has visited this site, and you can find him here.  BTW, you should also check out Martina's latest album here.)  If you found your way here by accident would you do me a favor and zap me an e-mail and tell me what you were looking for?  I want to hear from you.

Were you looking for a different "McBride"?   Perhaps I can help...

At last count there were 2,748 'John McBrides' out of a total  of 128,467 'McBrides' living in the United States!  As surnames go, 'McBride' is considered a common last name.  One 'McBride' family is found in every 3,846 families here in the US.  That makes its popularity rank 433. Outside the US there are thousands more McBrides in places like Scotland, Ireland, Australia and elsewhere.  If you are looking a McBride here in the US, enter their first name and state (if you know it) in the box below and press search..  Good Luck!

(If you can't find who you are looking for with this, then they've been living in a cave for the last 10 years!)

Did you know that Texas has more 'McBride's living in it than any other state?  For this and other useless facts about McBrides, click here.

What's new?

Got a new job.  I'm now working at Unitus Community Credit Union after working a year at the Portland Trail Blazers (now that was a fun job).  Thank heaven I'm no longer working for Portland General Electric , AKA Enron!  What a nightmare!  Without a  doubt, PGE is the worst managed company in the Pacific Northwest. It's no wonder Enron acquired them.  You couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of management patsies.  It's also no wonder they can't find a buyer!  Contact me if you want to know more.  I can give you the real inside story!

Did I do something nice for you?  Are you looking for that perfect gift for me?

Oh, that's so kind of you!  Well if you insist, let me suggest my favorite - Domaine Drouhin Oregon 2003 Laurene Pinot Noir.  Just click on the label to the right.  (Clever of me to provide this convenient link, don't you think?)   And while you are there, why not pick up a little something for yourself?  You deserve it.  Trust me.  Grown right here in the Willamette Valley, just a few miles from my house, The Wine Advocate Rating is 91. And you're going to love Wine.com.  Can' t beat their selection.  It's fun just to browse.  After all, life's to short to drink bad wine...  (Bet you don't know who first said that!)

The Totally Useless One Function Java Calculator Version 7.0 is back by popular demand!  It joins the equally useless Text-o-matic, Applet Pie, and the Stupid Graphic Trick as part of a cavalcade of useless Java applications I plan to build (or borrow) as I master this amusing and profitable language called Java...

Three years ago I expanded our garden but had a little trouble with raccoons.  My entire corn crop was devastated by these cute little critters.  But out West, when we have a problem, we handle it ourselves. See how I deal with it in garden photos.  I'm thinking about starting a new business... KoonKaps On-line? IPO time!!

What happened to the Blue Box Network?

Well after 10 years of continuous operation I decided to shut it down because I just didn't have the time to maintain it properly. These days, there are dozens of sites such as LinkedIn that address the need to stay in touch. Thanks for your past support!
